The Open Society Institute hosted a forum on changing U.S. policy in the Middle East with Rashid Khalidi, Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University.

Khalidi is editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies, and was president of the Middle East Studies Association, and an advisor to the Palestinian delegation to the Madrid and Washington Arab-Israeli peace negotiations from October 1991 until June 1993. His most recent book is Sowing Crisis: The Cold War and American Dominance in the Middle East.

Anthony Richter, associate director of the Open Society Institute and director of its Central Eurasia Project and Middle East & North Africa Initiative,  introduced the event.
