Report on Baltimore Health Care System Discussed in Baltimore Daily Record
June 8, 2004

Dr. Thomas O’Toole, a program officer for OSI’s Medicine as a Profession program, and Baltimore REACH, a consortium of community health providers that addresses the needs of the underserved, discussed their work in the Baltimore Daily Record on June 8, 2004.

Dr. O’Toole and Baltimore REACH held a press conference to announce the results of a collaborative study that compared the health status of Baltimore's underserved with that of six other cities. The study, which was published in the Journal of Urban Health (Vol. 81, No.2, pps. 179-190), examines Baltimore’s high rates of indigent patients who are unable to access care as well as its high number of preventable hospitalizations.
