The American College of Physicians (ACP) statement, “Ethics and Practice: Managed Care and the Changing Health Care Environment,” was published in the July 20, 2004, issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine. Medicine as a Profession supported this project as part of the Physician-Consumer Alliances grants initiative.

To develop a statement of ethics for managed care, the ACP convened a working group made up of patients, physicians, and managed care representatives. The statement has been endorsed by organizations including the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Diabetes Association, National Committee for Quality Assurance, and the Society of General Internal Medicine.
