Fellowship Partnering Organization: Washington Citizen Action

Working with appropriate organizations at the state and community level to increase awareness about the need for substantial and positive changes to ensure that all have access to needed health services, Dr. Crittenden sought to mobilize people throughout the state to support substantial health care reform.
Fellowship Successes
- Established the "Working for Health Coalition" of 30 statewide organizations, including the League of Women Voters, unions, church groups, provider organizations (doctors and hospitals), and consumer advocacy organizations. This educational coalition uses campaign activities (reports, releases, op-eds, letters to the editors, and events) to increase awareness of the need for public programs (Medicaid and Basic Health Plan) in every community in the state.
- Established "Communities Connect," an organization for local community organizations focused on improving their local health systems.
- As president of Rainier Institute, a policy shop founded by a former governor, Dr. Crittenden produced a number of reports and mounted a forums focused on health-care problems and solutions.
