OSI Grantee Honored for New Media Excellence

Date:
April 8, 2009

VerdadAbierta.com ("open truth"), a grantee of the Open Society Institute’s Media Program and Latin America Program, was recently awarded the “New Media” prize from the prestigious Círculo de Periodistas de Bogota (Circle of Journalists from Bogotá) during its annual excellence in journalism awards ceremony. The website was among 28 nominees in this category and had only been in operation for four months prior to this recognition.

Focusing on the paramilitary side of Colombia’s long civil war, VerdadAbierta.com provides stories about the creation, development, and expansion of the paramilitary movement in Colombia by offering information that is easy to understand and disseminate. The wealth of resources contained in this website will help support Colombia’s long road towards justice and reconciliation. Verdadabierta.com is a project of the Colombian weekly Semana and the Colombian foundation “Ideas Para la Paz.”
