
Latin America Program
Sandra Dunsmore is the regional director for Latin America at the Washington office of the Open Society Institute. In this capacity, she oversees all OSI activities in Latin America and acts as a liaison between OSI and the Soros foundations in Guatemala and Haiti.
Dunsmore joined OSI in 2008 after many years of leadership and strategic management experience, much of it in the field. Dunsmore’s principal geographic focus has been Latin America. The majority of her experience is in the areas of conflict transformation, peacebuilding, and democratic development. Dunsmore spent 13 years in Central America. During that time she worked for the Organization of American States and the American Friends Service Committee, and consulted for the United Nations Development Program and USAID. She returned to her native Canada as president of the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre, a bilingual not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preparation of police, military, and civilians for participation in peace operations. Prior to joining OSI, Dunsmore acted as a consultant to various nongovernmental organizations, including the Open Society Institute.
Sandra Dunsmore has an MA in Anthropology from the University of Manitoba and Graduate Certificate in Conflict Analysis and Transformation from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
