Audio:
Date:
April 25, 2009

West Africa Democracy Radio in Dakar, Senegal, interviewed Tracey Gurd, a legal officer with the Open Society Justice Initiative, about the ongoing war crimes trial of former Liberian president Charles Ghankay Taylor. The Justice Initiative began its trial monitoring in June 2007 on CharlesTaylorTrial.org, which provides news and expert analysis from the courtroom.

Taylor is charged with 11 counts of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and serious violations of international law related to the civil conflicts in Sierra Leone, and is being tried by the Special Court for Sierra Leone. His trial is being held in The Hague at the request of the Special Court, due to concerns about political destabilization were it held in West Africa.
