The Next Page Foundation works closely with the national Soros foundations in continuing translations support through the Network Translation Project and East Translates East Project. Next Page was created in 2001 when a large portion of the Information Program’s publishing-related projects was spun-off into its own independent entity.

Network Translation Project supports the translation and publication of works into the languages of Central and Eastern Europe. Works chosen for translation are in the humanities and social sciences fields and address socially relevant contemporary issues. Throughout the years, the program has supported more than 2,000 titles and it now operational in 20 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

Other translation-support activities include a number of programs that encourage the publication of open society-related and minority issues, e.g., Roma Translation Project, Women Translation Project, Gay & Lesbian Issues Translation Project, and books on media and journalism. Since 2002, the foundation has been active in the field of publishing in the Romani language by supporting individual publications as well as networking and training of Romani-language publishers in Eastern Europe.

Next Page is a partner in the Books Across Borders project which seeks to strengthen the book market in the former Yugoslavia and revitalize cooperation among Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of publishing. The project was created in partnership with the Soros foundations in participating countries, the National Library of Serbia, CEEBP–Amsterdam, and the MATRA program of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
