Southeast European Faculty Development Program

The Southeast European Faculty Development Program (SEEFDP) was launched in 2000 with the aim to strengthen the teaching skills and upgrade the academic standards of young scholars in social sciences and humanities through regional and international partnerships, exchange and cooperation.

In the spirit of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, the program targeted all countries in South Eastern Europe, and was open to all institutions. The program intended to engage creatively the existing resources in the region for the region, and worked to integrate regional and international cooperative components.

SEEFDP was designed for individual scholars from, and higher education units (departments, chairs, teaching institutes) in, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, and Serbia. The focus was on the field of humanities and social sciences.

The Southeast European Faculty Development Program offered the following five schemes: Modular Doctoral Support, Postdoctoral Fellowship, Returning Scholars, Visiting Scholars, and Unit Partnership. SEEFDP is currently in its final year, and HESP is not renewing it. The program is currently being assessed internally; decisions as to the direction and focus of further support for faculty development in Southeast Europe will be based on lessons learned from the SEEFDP.
