Artes Liberales Inter-University Program in the Humanities

The Artes Liberales Inter-University Program in the Humanities (ALIP) comprises two interdisciplinary programs, both coordinated by the Foundation "Institute Artes Liberales" (IAL) and the Center for Studies on the Classical Tradition (OBTA) at Warsaw University. The first program is the East-Central European School in the Humanities, run in cooperation with universities and other scientific institutions from Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Russia, and Bulgaria. The school's participants are young scholars and Ph.D. and M.A. students in the humanities (especially nonapplied humanities). Its sessions take the form of seminars, research seminars, summer/winter schools, workshops, and field studies at cooperating institutions.
The second element of ALIP is the program of the Inter-University Individual Studies in the Humanities, implemented in six major Polish universities and open to participants from throughout Central and Eastern Europe. It is a five-year program of interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate studies with guaranteed tutorial assistance. HESP covers 50 percent of the total costs. Other major co-funding institutions are the Stefan Batory Foundation and Warsaw University.
Center for Social Sciences at Tbilisi State University

The Center for Social Sciences (CSS) at Tbilisi State University (TSU) follows the traces and builds upon the achievements of the Social Sciences Support Program, which managed to create new MA programs in Sociology, Political Science, and International Relations. CSS, with assistance from HESP, runs the Project on Developing the Graduate Program in Social Sciences at Tbilisi State University. The project aims at transforming and improving graduate studies in Social Sciences (mainly Sociology, Politics, International Relations) first by creating model interdisciplinary master’s programs, improving the quality of research and teaching as well as creating the proper quality assurance system, and then by helping Tbilisi State University adopt the structure and the procedures developed and introduced by CSS, and also subsequently expand these procedures to the rest of Tbilisi State University. The new programs include Gender Studies and an English-language regional program: South Caucasus in Transition. CSS is now working on developing and introducing a model of a modern PhD program at TSU as well.
Center for Social Studies / Graduate School for Social Research

The Center for Social Studies / Graduate School for Social Research (CSS/GSSR), a graduate training institution affiliated with the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, offers jointly with the University of Lancaster (U.K.) one-year M.A. programs in Society and Politics, Economy and Society, and Culture and Society. In cooperation with research institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, CSS/GSSR offers a four-year interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in social and cultural studies. HESP provides CSS/GSSR with a limited number of scholarships for Central East European students and contributes towards its running costs. CSS/GSSR is also supported by the State Committee of Scientific Research of Poland, the Government of France, the Bosch Foundation, and the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD).
Graduate School for Social Research, Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences

The Graduate School for Social Research (GSSR) is part of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. With an international student body and courses taught in Polish and other languages, the GSSR aims to play a significant role in the effective reform of social sciences in the region. HESP provides scholarships for students from the region for the length of their four-year Ph.D. program and contributes to institutional development. The GSSR also receives support from the Ford Foundation, the French Government, the Government of Saxony, and the Bosch Foundation.
International Management Teachers Academy

International Management Teachers Academy (IMTA) is a major European faculty development project aimed at improving the quality of management development in the CEE and CA Region through the development of a new generation of management educators. The project, initiated by the IEDC-Bled School of Management and CEEMAN, has been supported and co-sponsored by OSI through its RMEP and HESP programs. Since 2000, the total number of 310 young university professors and junior faculty from 103 institutions from 32 countries of CEE, Western Europe, Central, Southern and South-eastern Asia have attended and accomplished the program taking place at the IEDC-Bled School of Management.
In order to obtain a long-lasting impact, the IMTA Alumni Association was established in 2006 to foster mutual communication and cooperation among IMTA alumni and their respective institution, and to serve as a platform through which IMTA program and CEEMAN could provide continuous support.
Institute for Privatization and Management

The Institute for Privatization and Management (IPM) is a regional center of the Open University Business School (UK) and an accredited study center of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, which offers degree programs in management, marketing, and finance. In alliance with the European Humanities University, IPM is currently working on developing an MBA program along with requalification tutorials. The Open Society Institute supports the IPM Research Center, which provides faculty with opportunities for field research and serves the public as a reliable source of information on economics. HESP provides support for general faculty development. IPM also receives support from the Eurasia Foundation, the Know-How Fund, and through the TACIS Program of the European Commission.
Institutum Studiorum Humanitatis, Ljubljana Graduate School of the Humanities

The Institutum Studiorum Humanitatis (ISH) is an autonomous higher education institution offering M.A. and Ph.D. programs in the social sciences and humanities, specifically in anthropology, linguistics, and social communication. ISH's aim is to attract students from Central and South Eastern Europe as well as from the countries of the former Soviet Union with program offerings relevant to the region. Furthermore, ISH strives to establish close, international cooperation and academic ties with higher education institutions engaged in the same or similar fields. HESP provides support through scholarships to Slovenian as well as international students working towards an M.A. or Ph.D.
International Institute of Business

The International Institute of Business (IIB) was founded as a non-profit, independent training and educational institution by the Ukrainian Academy of Public Administration and the Central European University Foundation. The goal of IIB’s creation was to establish a Ukrainian educational institution which would facilitate economic reform in Ukraine through the provision of educational services in the field of business. IIB is Ukraine’s only business school featuring both MBA programs, internationally recognized professional qualifications and a full range of innovative management development products. HESP provides support for general faculty development.
International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University

International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University (ISET) is an autonomous graduate school of Tbilisi State University, which serves the entire Caucasus region and consists of a world-class two-year English-language master’s program, an affiliated research center, and a program of outreach to universities, government agencies and the research community. HESP supports institutional development among numerous other donors such as the Government of Georgia, British Petroleum, SIDA, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, Bank Republic and DFID.
Kyiv School of Economics

The Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) was founded by the Economics Education and Research Consortium (EERC) and the Victor Pinchuk Foundation. KSE offers internationally recognized two-year, full-time English-language Master's Programs: M.A. in Economic Analysis and M.A. in Financial Economics. The programs are taught by international and Western-trained Ukrainian faculty who has strong backgrounds in teaching and research.
M.A. Programs in Sociology and Cultural Studies at Ivan Franko National University

Launched in 2003, these year-and-a-half-long interdisciplinary programs are developed according to European standards of higher education and the ECTS. The programs reveal the deeper sense of changes in contemporary NIS societies, as well as master the due notional devices and the arguments of Western critics. The programs are open both for Ukrainian and foreign students. The teaching language is Ukrainian, however some optional courses are taught in English. HESP's support is mainly structured in the form of need-based tuition scholarships.
Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences

The Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (MSSES) was founded by the Academy for National Economy under the Russian Federation Government and HESP. MSSES is a graduate school of social sciences in which the British academic tradition is integrated into the Russian cultural environment. Students study in the faculties of law, political science, sociology, social work, and administration. HESP provides scholarships for students from the Russian provinces and Belarus and also supports institutional development. MSSES receives additional funding from the MacArthur Foundation.
New Economic School

The New Economic School (NES) was established by the Central Institute of Mathematical Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. NES offers a two-year M.A. in economics, which conforms to internationally established academic standards. NES also houses a research center focusing on the economic transition of Russia. HESP contributes to institutional development. The Economics Education Research Consortium (EERC), of which HESP is a member, provides support for research.
Riga Graduate School of Law

Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) is an autonomous institution within the University of Latvia, which offers Master's programs in International and European Law, Legal Linguistics, and Law and Finance. HESP provides a limited number of full scholarships for qualified students from the former Soviet Union (excluding the Baltic States), Southeast Europe (non-EU countries) and Mongolia to obtain an LL.M. degree, specializing in Public International Law and Human Rights.
School of Management at St. Petersburg State University

The Faculty of Management (FOM) was founded by St. Petersburg State University in cooperation with the Haas School of Business of the University of California at Berkeley. HESP supports foreign visiting lecturers, joint research initiatives, and the development of new academic programs and courses. HESP is also taking the first preparatory steps towards the establishment of an NGO management training program at FOM. FOM receives assistance from numerous other donors such as the Haas School of Business, USIA, the Arthur B. Schultz Foundation, and Proctor & Gamble.
