Mobility Fund

The Academic Fellowship Program  (AFP) Mobility Fund is designed to support visits between AFP partner departments or former AFP Resource Departments.  Faculty members may use the mobility grant to consult with colleagues on issues of curriculum, teaching or research, such as developing a new course or revising an existing one.  Goals of the visit should be well-defined, based on concrete outcomes, and align with the departmental development strategy.

Recipients of the grant are encouraged to give a guest lecture or lead a discussion in their area of expertise while visiting the host university.

Application Procedure and Deadline

Application materials may be submitted any time until June 30, 2010, but must be received at least two months prior to the proposed visit.  The application and budget forms are available for download below.  Proposals are evaluated on a rolling basis, and results are announced within 45 days of receipt of project proposal. Funding is limited, so partner departments are encouraged to apply as early as possible in the academic year to ensure availability.

Eligibility Criteria

All faculty members (not only AFP Returning Fellows) at AFP partner departments are eligible to apply.

An AFP partner department may qualify for up to three mobility grants per academic year, one of which must be awarded to an AFP Returning Fellow, and one of which should support a team visit.

A list of current AFP partner departments is available for download below.  For more information consult AFP country/regional offices.

Length of Visit

Up to two weeks

Eligible expenses

  • reasonable travel-related expenses (tickets, visa, travel
    insurance);
  • living expenses (stipend) - up to 300 EUR (no separate per
    diem is included in the grant); and
  • reasonable accommodation expenses.

A project report and financial report must be completed for each project and submitted to the AFP Budapest office within 30 days of the project's termination date, but no later than August 31, 2010.
