2008

A grant to support the documentation of the human rights abuses faced by sex workers in Thailand and advocacy to address these abuses. Through this project, eight human rights defenders from the Sex Worker Network of Thailand will be trained to collect complaints and evidence of human rights abuses against sex workers and disseminate findings to push for legal and policy changes.

The training includes increasing knowledge of law and human rights mechanisms, expanding relationships with other stakeholders, and acquiring skills in collecting data and producing reports of human rights abuses. The Sex Worker Network of Thailand represents male, female and trans sex workers from all sectors of the sex industry across Thailand. The consortium includes the organizations SWING, Sisters, M-Plus, Violet House, Andaman Power, and the four offices of the Empower Foundation. This grant was funded in partnership with the Public Health Program's Law and Health Initiative.
