Sex Worker Education and Advocacy Taskforce
2007 A grant to support the development of a collective sex worker movement in South Africa, through the sex worker group Sisonke. The project is concentrated on developing support services and viable sex worker networks in rural areas of South Africa. SHARP’s funding is concentrated on fostering the growth and development of a national Sisonke through es tablishing contact with rural “advice centres;” capacity and skills development of staff working in the advice centers on how to address issues facing sex workers; outreach to sex workers in each region by SWEAT and Sisonke; the establishment of a network of stakeholders that support the growth and development of Sisonke; and national events in which sex workers around the country can unite and have their voices heard.
