Safe Pulse of Youth
2006

A grant to expand upon Safe Pulse of Youth's (SPY) work as a grantee of the 2004-2006 HIV Prevention among Vulnerable Populations Initiative (HPVPI), a joint initiative funded through DfID and executed by Imperial College of London, OSI New York, and the HPVPI Secretariat office in Belgrade. SPY worked to reduce the spread of HIV infection among the Roma population by developing sustainable models of HIV prevention services. This project built from this two-year initiative to: help Roma individuals in two cities gain knowledge and skills on HIV/AIDS and related issues and develop better linkages with public health centers; facilitate social mobilization and the participation of local communities in creating a supportive environment for fighting HIV/AIDS among the Roma population; and strengthen Roma NGOs to continue activities on HIV prevention and develop sustainable models of dealing with health issues under Serbia’s Action Plan for Health Care among Roma Population.
