Adilet
2008

A grant to provide core support to Adilet to effectively enact its mandate of providing free legal services to marginalized groups and raising public awareness of their rights within in Kyrgyzstan. Despite Kyrgyzstan's relatively progressive policies, human rights abuses and stigma towards vulnerable groups are common. Additionally, social services and legal systems are often exceptionally hard to navigate for people whose rights are intrinsically disregarded by these systems. Adilet will expand their legal services to especially marginalized groups including people living with HIV/AIDS, people who use drugs, sex workers and sexual and gender minorities. Through this project, Adilet will be able to reach more clients and raise legal awareness and capacity among more partner NGOs, especially those in the southern region of the country. This grant was funded in partnership with Soros Foundation Kyrgyzstan and The Public Health Program's Health Media Initiative, International Harm Reduction Development Program, and Law and Health Initiative.
