Roundtable Discussion: Sex Work, Sexual Rights, and Countering the Conservative Sexual Agenda

Location: New York City
Event Date: October 14, 2005

Cosponsored by SHARP, the Urban Justice Center, the Alliance for Open Society International, and the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, this conference provided an opportunity for a diverse group of advocates, academics, policy experts, service providers, and sex workers to discuss and strategize on a common agenda to combat the negative effects of regressive U.S. policies on the health of sex workers globally.

Presenters included Esther Kaplan, Jodi Jacobson, Ali Miller, and Sealing Cheng. An independent consulting firm conducted an analysis of media messaging and presented the findings to the participants. Following the media analysis, participants brainstormed on a potential messaging strategy. One result of the meeting was the formulation of a working group to outline concrete policy objectives and a related media strategy.
