The Open Society Institute’s Sexual Health and Rights Project & U.S. Programs hosted a briefing on a first-ever research report on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender funders. Read A Global Gaze: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Grantmaking in the Global South and East, published by Funders for Lesbian and Gay Issues.

Robert Espinoza, Director of Research and Communications at Funders for Lesbian and Gay Issues—the sole organization dedicated exclusively to increasing institutional giving to LGBT communities—presented an overview of A Global Gaze.

Joo-Hyun Kang, Director of Programs at the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, shared several recent cases which highlight both challenges and successes for promoting LGBT health and rights worldwide. She discussed achievements in challenging oppression and empowering LGBT persons to claim their human rights as well as how additional resources can help to further these efforts.

Sue Simon, director of the Sexual Health and Rights Project, introduced the event.
