International Conference on the Reduction of Drug-Related Harm

Location: Belfast, Ireland
Event Date: March 16, 2005

At the 16th International Conference on the Reduction of Drug Related Harm, SHARP Director Sue Simon participated in the panel “Voices from the Edge: Women Drug Users from Across the Globe,” one of six panels that addressed issues related to gender, sexual health, and/or sex workers. Simon’s presentation was entitled “HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care: Meeting the Needs of Women.”

Simon also organized and hosted a networking meeting on sex work issues for 35 colleagues from around the globe. The meeting served as a chance for service providers, advocates, and sex workers to meet; provide brief updates about their activities; share resources; identify networking/communication needs and mechanisms; identify barriers and opportunities for collaboration; find common advocacy goals; and figure out ways to better support each others’ efforts.
