2009 Annual Report on Sexual and Health Rights of Marginalized Communities
In November, Macedonia’s Coalition for the Promotion and Protection of the Sexual and Health Rights of Marginalized Communities released its first annual report on the sexual health and rights of marginalized people in the country. The report is based on 40 documented cases of violence or discrimination against sex workers, people living with HIV, drug users, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. In addition to discussing individual cases, the report tracks policies and legislation that influence the human rights of these groups.
The coalition is comprised of six organizations working for the promotion and protection of the sexual health and rights of marginalized communities across Macedonia. Since 2007, the Foundation Open Society Institute–Macedonia and OSI's Public Health Program have supported the coalition to develop instruments for monitoring and documenting the human rights violations experienced by sex workers, sexual and gender minorities, and other marginalized groups.
