OSI Grantees Attend European Conference on Health of Young People

Date:
July 10, 2009

Upon invitation by the Health and Consumers Directorate-General of the European Commission, OSI's Roma Health Project and its grantee and partner organizations the National Roma Centrum (Macedonia), Roma Center for Democracy (Serbia), and HealthMonitor (Hungary), attended the "Be Healthy, Be Yourself" conference in Brussels from July 9-10, 2009.

Bringing together about 500 participants, the conference aimed to involve young people in making decisions about their health and encourage policymakers and professionals to commit to improving the health of young people.

The conference included a panel on health inequalities, where Roma Health Project representatives and partner organizations raised awareness of the alarming health status of the Roma population in Europe, the importance of involving Roma youth in the implementation of health policies, and the role of the EU in prompting Member States to act towards this end.
