Increasing the Engagement of Roma Communities and Advocates on Public Health Issues Affecting Roma Health

Grantee List

Grantees
Safe Pulse of Youth (SPY) Belgrade
2008

Funds are to reduce the HIV infection rates among the Roma population in Belgrade and Nis, with special emphasis on most-at risk Roma groups, particularly Roma men who have sex with men (MSM). SPY will focus on increasing the capacity of Roma NGOs to be engaged on public health issues affecting Roma health, with special emphasis to HIV/AIDS and reproductive health among especially vulnerable Roma groups. The organization will also work on preventing HIV transmission among Roma people involved in high risk behaviors through direct outreach in Belgrade, Nis, and Kragujevac, carried out by experienced outreach workers, medical personnel from primary health care centers, and Roma peer outreach workers. These activities will be accompanied by a qualitative and quantitative research on risky behavior patterns among most at-risk Roma communities.
