Increasing the Engagement of Roma Communities and Advocates on Public Health Issues Affecting Roma Health

Grantee List

Grantees
BIBIJA—Rroma Women’s Center, Belgrade
2008

A grant to support BIBIJA-Rroma Women's Center in advancing Romani women's health by putting together a comprehensive picture of family violence and its health consequences in Roma communities. Activities will focus on raising awareness and capacities of six Roma women’s NGOs in Serbia to work on the issue of family violence and its impact on women’s health. BIBIJA will collect field information on the extent to which Roma women recognize violence in general as a problem and its particular consequences for health, and their ways of coping. The outcomes of these activities will feed into an advocacy strategy for improvement of the position of Romani women, victims of violence on local level by developing a network among other local women’s organizations, existing SOS phone lines and nearest safe houses for victims.
