Call for Proposals: TB/HIV Monitoring and Advocacy Grants

Date:
May 9, 2006

Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of death among people living with HIV/AIDS. Yet TB is a preventable, treatable, and curable disease. In areas of high HIV/AIDS prevalence like Sub-Saharan Africa, TB rates are rising exponentially.

Despite the clear linkage between these two diseases in both individuals and communities, there has not been sufficient collaboration between national TB and HIV/AIDS programs and policies in many countries.

Community participation in health policy development is low, despite broad recognition that public engagement in policymaking, advocacy, social mobilization and community education are all critical elements in accelerating and improving implementation of collaborative TB/HIV activities.

Public Health Watch’s TB/HIV Monitoring and Advocacy Project is calling for proposals from community-based or nongovernmental organizations to monitor and conduct advocacy around the need for more effective implementation of TB/HIV collaborative activities recommended by the World Health Organization.

As demonstrated leaders of HIV/AIDS advocacy and social mobilization efforts, groups led or with major participation at all levels by people living with HIV/AIDS and/or TB are particularly encouraged to apply.

For more information and to access the grant application, please see the TB/HIV Monitoring and Advocacy Grant guidelines.

Deadline: May 31, 2006.
