Gathering Evidence for Advocacy in Health: Applying Community Monitoring Frameworks, Tools, and Methods

Location: Budapest, Hungary
Event Date: March 23, 2010 - March 25, 2010

OSI’s Public Health Watch held a workshop for health and human rights advocacy organizations on using community monitoring tools to advance their advocacy goals. The workshop provided advocates with innovative methods for holding governments accountable for the management of public resources, including health services. The workshop helped organizations develop new monitoring and advocacy strategies and strengthen existing efforts.

The workshop included advocacy organizations working in Ukraine, Russia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Kazakhstan. The organizations work on a range of health and human rights issues, including Roma health, harm reduction, AIDS, tuberculosis, and access to medicines. Experts from India and South Africa presented different approaches to community monitoring and helped participants customize tools and methods for their countries.
