About Open Society & Health Media

The Public Health Program's Health Media Initiative seeks to build the capacity of civil society organizations to effectively use media to advocate on key health issues that impact marginalized populations. The Initiative works with its grantees to ensure that a robust media strategy is ingrained within organizations and their advocacy plans. Through ongoing technical assistance and training workshops, the Initiative provides organizations with the tools they need to strengthen their capacity to use media, including the press, social media, and new communications technologies.

The Health Media Initiative aims to help members of marginalized populations more effectively engage in public dialogue on a range of issues affecting them. In particular, the Initiative works with people with intellectual disabilities, sex workers, people who use drugs, and people living with HIV to share their own stories through various media tools such as video and audio recorders, social media websites, and blogs.
