National Palliative Care Plan in Development in Romania

Date:
April 25, 2008

The Bucharest-based Hospice Casa Sperantei Foundation (HCS), a grantee and partner of OSI's International Palliative Care Initiative, is working with the Romanian Ministry of Health and the Federation of Associations for Cancer Patients to develop the first National Palliative Care Plan in Romania. The plan will be a component of the National Cancer Plan. HCS, working closely with the Ministry of Health, will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the plan, informing and consulting with other palliative care organizations and the Oncology Commission, and evaluating the needs of palliative care services at a national level. HCS will also contribute to public and professional education on palliative care.
