The 17th International Conference on the Reduction of Drug Related Harm
Hear & Now: The Peer Conference
| Location: | Vancouver, Canada |
| Event Date: | April 30, 2006 - May 4, 2006 |
Created by the International Harm Reduction Association, the International Conference on the Reduction of Drug Related Harm is the most important annual meeting addressing science, practice, and policy related to harm reduction.
In order to promote a global conversation on harm reduction, the 2006 event provided a setting where consumers, advocates, researchers, treatment providers and public policy makers can collaboratively develop realistic, responsive and effective harm reduction strategies. A diversity of delegates were invited—current and former consumers of harm reduction programs, doctors, nurses, educators, peer support people, academics, front-line workers, pharmaceutical companies, corrections workers, policy makers, lawyers, police officers, enforcement agencies, and human rights activists.
The 2006 conference aimed to:
- further a platform for evidence-based advocacy that will reduce barriers to harm reduction, treatment and care;
- facilitate the exchange of practical tools and resources to reduce drug-related harm;
- provide an opportunity for ongoing and future collaborations of peers, providers, scientists and other participants;
- offer a forum for peer-reviewed, quality research that leads to improved harm reduction measures.
