Soros Foundations

The Public Health Program works closely with individual Soros foundations to implement policies and support local organizations. Find out more about Soros foundations.

Access to Medicines
OSI supports efforts to ensure access to medicines, including opioids for pain relief and drug addiction treatment, and medicines for HIV and TB prevention and treatment.

Ensuring Accountability
The OSI Public Health Program promotes civil society leadership and participation in shaping health policies that respect human rights and are scientifically sound.

Harm Reduction & Drug Use
The International Harm Reduction Development Program focuses on diminishing the individual and social harms associated with drug use—particularly the risk of HIV infection—through innovative measures based on the philosophy of harm reduction.

Health Media
OSI’s Public Health Program launched the Health Media Project to facilitate interaction between the media and public health organizations. The project aims to increase public awareness of stigmatized health issues involving marginalized populations.

HIV/AIDS
OSI’s Public Health Program works to support vulnerable and marginalized populations who are typically neglected in approaches to treating and preventing HIV/AIDS.

Law and Health
The Law and Health Initiative seeks to advance public health priorities by supporting civil society’s capacity in law and health, and promoting the practice and discipline of law and health.

Mental Health
The OSI Mental Health Initiative aims to ensure that people with mental disabilities (mental health problems and/or intellectual disabilities) are able to live as equal citizens in the community and to participate in society with full respect for their human rights.

Palliative Care
The goal of the OSI International Palliative Care Initiative is to improve end-of-life care for patients and their families, with a special focus on vulnerable populations including the elderly, children, and patients with cancer or HIV/AIDS.

Roma Health
OSI's Roma Health Project works to promote equal access of Roma to appropriate and quality health care services, and encourages full participation of Roma advocates in developing and shaping health policies.

Sexual Health and Rights
The Sexual Health and Rights Project of the OSI Public Health Program works to ensure that people who are stigmatized because of their sexual practices, sexual orientation, or gender identity have access to quality health and social services and can effectively advocate for their rights.

Tuberculosis
OSI supports projects and advocacy efforts aimed at reducing the spread of TB among marginalized populations, including people living with HIV/AIDS.

Women's Health
OSI's Public Health Program works to address the vulnerabilities of women and girls—particularly marginalized groups such as young girls, sex workers, women who use drugs, and Roma women.
