As an Open Society Fellow, Eric Stover, a writer who explores the nexus of war, public health, and law, will evaluate whether war-crimes tribunals serve the needs of victims of mass violence. His fellowship project will focus on the work of tribunals for the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Cambodia, Sierra Leone, and East Timor, as well as the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Stover's goal is to help tribunals, donors, and NGOs improve the quality of their interactions with victims and witnesses and to facilitate outreach to affected communities. Stover is the faculty director of the Human Rights Center at UC Berkeley and formerly served as executive director of Physicians for Human Rights. He has written several books, including The Witnesses: War Crimes and the Promise of Justice in The Hague, and Witnesses from the Grave: The Stories Bones Tell. Berkeley, CA; New York, NY; Cambodia; The Hague; Nairobi, Kenya | September 2009 - August 2010 |
