About
CERD is a research unit within the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb which carries out fundamental and applied research on education. It was initiatied and founded in January 2001 by the professors of the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb (Departments of Pedagogy, Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy). Main activities inlcude cientific research (fundamental and applied research); ducation (postgraduate studies, summer school, seminars and other forms of education as well as training of teachers and specialists in the field of education); publishing research results. The work programme of CERD covers all aspects of the educational system and its regulative mechanisms: 1. organization of the educational system; 2. national curriculum (teaching plans, textbooks etc.); 3. learning strategies and teaching procedures, development and application of the new educational technology, etc.; 4. internal and external assessment of educational achievements; 5. improvement of higher education; 6. development of educational models for teachers; 7. models of education for educational specialists; 8. system management; 9. financing of education, 10. educational laws. The work of CERD is based on cooperation and partnership with national and international institutions. CERD also acts as a center for the knowledge accumulated in Croatia, a meeting place for cooperation of academic and research institutions, pedagogical faculties, teacher colleges and other institutions concerned with education in the country and neighbouring countries.

Experts the Open Society Institute Croatia supported the founding of this center. CERD is a member of the Network of Education Policy Centers. This network is facilitated by the Education Support Program (ESP), Open Society Institute Budapest.
