OSI Mourns the Loss of Hannes Voolma

Date:
July 20, 2007

The Education Support Program and the wider Open Society Education Network across Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia mourn the recent passing of Hannes Voolma, a close colleague and friend to many of us. We wish to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and other friends.

Voolma was employed by the Institute for Educational Policy, the predecessor program to the Education Support Program, from 1999 to 2001. After leaving Budapest, he consulted extensively for ESP in Central Asia and the Baltics.

A fine professional, talented linguist, and critical thinker, Hannes was passionately committed to reforming education and building a more open and equal world. He was supportive, innovative, and extremely generous with his time. We shall miss his experience and knowledge, his many insights and guidance, his humour and his care.
