Grantee Survey Examines Parental Participation in Southeast European Schools

The Center for Education Policy Studies (CEPS, University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Education) published a series of books presenting the results of their cross-country survey of the principals' views on parental participation in school. The survey was conducted in 2008 in the eight South Eastern Europe (SEE) countries, i.e. Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia, under the auspices of a multiyear regional research and evidence-based advocacy initiative "Advancing Education Quality and Inclusion."

Responding to insufficient and inadequate parental participation in SEE schools, the initiative is designed to promote meaningful involvement of parents in school life as one of the most powerful means to advance education quality while advancing social inclusion. In 2009, the survey of the parents' views on their involvement in the life of schools was conducted in the eight SEE countries listed above, as well as in Bulgaria and Croatia. The corresponding publications will be available soon.

This initiative, launched in 2007 is funded by the Education Support Program of Open Society Institute and jointly implemented with the Center for Education Policy Studies, the Soros foundations, and the Education Civil Society Organizations in the above SEE countries.
