Advocacy Skills for Parents' Knowledge of and Influence on Education
2006

Organization: Association "New Connections”

Country coverage: Tajikistan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Lithuania

The overall goal of the project is to develop parents’ advocacy capacities in education through joint activities and networking. Parents need to be taught to cooperate with each other, and to cooperate with schools, ministries, departments and other stakeholders in order to be successful in their advocacy activities. They need certain skills, strategies, and methods of conflict resolution, successful negotiation, and collective bargaining.

The NGO Association “New Connection” has initiated and helped to establish the National Parents Forum in Lithuania, which lobbies and advocates for the educational and social needs of children. The project idea is based on helping partner countries to learn what has been done by the National Parents Forum, to share common issues, generate new ideas, to have joint training and consultancy from external experts, and to establish national groups of Parents Councils for advocacy needs in partner countries.
