Current ESP Initiatives

Regional Initiatives
The Education Support Program has been developing strategies to further equity in education with a range of partners in Central Asia, Pakistan, South Eastern Europe, Southern & West Africa, and other regions.

Resourcing Education: Fund for Innovations and Networking (RE:FINE)
RE:FINE has supported special education projects in four priority areas: accountability, equity, anticorruption, and the improvement of learning outcomes.

Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking
The Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking project trains educators to help improve classroom practices at all grade levels and in most school subjects.

Parental Informal Payments to Education
The Education Support Program has designed survey instruments and research methodology for a study on parental informal payments to education (PIPES) in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Moldova, Slovakia, and Tajikistan.

Open Society Education Monitoring Initiative
The Open Society Education Monitoring Initiative is part of an overall monitoring strategy that aims to raise public awareness and advocate for equal access and quality education for all.

Networks & Partners

Network of Education Policy Centers
The Education Support Program (ESP) supports the efforts of emerging Education Policy Centers in transition countries for a better sharing of information, knowledge and experience as well as exploring and promoting possibilities for joint initiatives and networking.

Central Asian Education Cooperation Network
The regional Central Asian Education Cooperation Network seeks to enhance the education reform processes through improved cooperation among countries in the region.

SEE ECN: South East European Educational Cooperation Network
The SEE ECN: South East European Educational Cooperation Network facilitates the flow of information and establishes links among grassroots initiatives, NGOs, regional education policy makers, and international institutions.

Past ESP Initiatives

Evaluation and Policy Courses (2001–2005)
In collaboration with ESP, Columbia University's Teachers College offered courses on program evaluation for international education projects and on international education policy.

National Policy Projects
The Education Support Program's national policy projects aimed to build consensus on education reform priorities.

Roma Education Initiative (2002-2005)
The Roma Education Initiative worked to combat segregation and all forms of racial discrimination against Romani children in school systems by increasing national programming, mobilizing national agendas and resources, and advocating for systemic and policy changes.
