The Education Support Program held the Network Education Program Coordinators Meeting 2004: Networking for Impact on Policy and Practice, in Antalya, Turkey on June 3–5, 2004.

The meeting brought together colleagues from Soros foundations and partner education NGOs from Central, Southern, and Eastern Europe; Russia; the Caucasus; Central Asia; Mongolia; and Turkey. This year ESP extended an invitation to education specialists from other countries and regions of OSI’s strategic interest. The Chair and several members of the General Education Sub-Board (GESB) participated in the event. Regional directors and colleagues from other OSI Education Network Programs were also invited.

The meeting offered an opportunity to discuss current challenges and opportunities in promoting open society values in education, and to exchange experiences in policy work and innovations in general education. Topics included:

  • advocacy for open society values in education;
  • networking for impact on policy and practice;
  • the role of civil society in influencing education change;
  • sustainability of education NGOs;
  • models of education reform support;
  • online resources for policy-making and capacity building.
