Summer School on Transparency, Ethics and Anticorruption Measures in Education
| Location: | Paris, France |
| Event Date: | June 6, 2007 - June 15, 2007 |
Since 2001, the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) has been conducting a research project on ethics and corruption in education with the aim of assessing the nature and extent of the problem, and identifying good practices and solutions. It has focused on the financing of schools, teacher management and behavior, public contracts, production and distribution of textbooks, organization of examinations, accreditation of higher education institutions, private tutoring, and more.
The IIEP now launches its first international course, which will be based on the numerous activities carried out within the framework of the project. The summer school will target governmental officials and NGOs and aim to increase awareness on anti-corruption issues. Participants will be also trained on how to design and implement strategies to improve transparency and accountability in education, and to design and implement various diagnostic tools aimed at assessing distorted practices in the use of education resources. The school will bring together about 30 participants from various countries.
Participants will be primarily chosen from among high-level managers and administrators from Ministries of Education and Finance in developing countries worldwide. They will also include representatives of the civil society and donor agencies.
Application deadline: April 25, 2007.
More information is available at www.unesco.org/iiep/ss2007/sschool.htm.
The IIEP will collaborate with the World Bank Institute and the Open Society Institute Education Support Program for preparation and organization of the summer school. Transparency International and the Utstein Anti-corruption Resource Centre will be involved in this initiative. The Education Support Program will provide professional as well as financial support for the summer school.
