Advocacy for More Humane Drug Policy in Central Java

In response to Central Java's punitive drug policies, PERFORMA will carry out an advocacy campaign targeted at policy makers, while working at grassroots level to provide people who use drugs the skills to advocate their own issues. The two divisions which make up this organization - Media & Advocacy and Community Organizer & Capacity Building - will work towards raising the awareness of the rights of people who use drugs in Central Java, educating the general public on the injustices of the criminal system towards drug users, pushing for treatment instead of incarceration for individuals arrested for drug use, and mitigating the abuses currently perpetuated by the justice and police against drug users.

Two campaigns will aim to increase access to methadone and advocate for rehabilitation, rather than incarceration, of drug users. Concrete outcomes include increased awareness among society about the ineffectiveness of the current drug policy and a drug policy based on human rights and public health concepts.
