International War on Drugs Lecture Series

With the aim of educating Americans about the impact of U.S. drug policy both at home and abroad, the Cato Institute has proposed a media and educational campaign in partnership with the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA).

Between January 2009 and October 2009, a series of 10 lectures focusing on different aspects of the war on drugs are to take place in select cities around the country. Several events will be recorded and broadcast on the radio and/or Internet. Speakers will also meet with local editorial boards, write relevant op-eds and give interviews. In selecting the cities, organizers pay particular attention to the proposals submitted by local councils which detail audience figures (a minimum of 100), possible local panelists, available venues, and proposed media coverage. Advertising will be handled by  WACA. Through discussion and debate, future steps will be identified. There will be a policy forum and a Capitol Hill briefing.
