OSI Forum: Turkmenistan—What Next?

The Central Eurasia Project of the Open Society Institute hosted a discussion, "Turkmenistan: What Next?" with Michael Hall, Central Asia Project Director of the International Crisis Group.

Hall is also a PhD candidate in Inner Asian Studies at Harvard University, and holds an MA in Regional Studies: Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia from Harvard. He has studied in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and previously worked for the Aga Khan Humanities Project in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.  Mr. Hall discussed ICG's recent report titled "Turkmenistan after Niyazov," which examines the legacy of the late president, Saparmurat Niyazov, and the situation in the country following the rigged election on February 11 of Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov as his successor.

Cassandra Cavanaugh, Central Eurasia Project Director of Advocacy and Grants, introduced the event.
