Turkmenistan's Environmental Risks in the Era of Investment

Event Date: September 12, 2007

As foreign governments and major Western energy companies increasingly explore investment in Turkmenistan, environmental issues, from biodiversity to environmental health, are of increasing concern. A new report by Crude Accountability sheds light on the implications of increased investment on Turkmenistan's economy and human development challenges, and its role as a regional actor under its new president, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.

The OSI Central Eurasia Project hosts a discussion with Kate Watters, Director of the nonprofit environmental organization Crude Accountability, and Leo Gallagher, Regional Economic Officer for South and Central Asia, U.S. Department of State.
