Make-Up or Break-Up? Sectarian Politics in Iraq

OSI's Middle East and North Africa Initiatives hosted a presentation and discussion on sectarian politics in Iraq with Dr. Joost Hiltermann, Middle East Project Director of the International Crisis Group. Anthony Richter, associate director of OSI and director of the Central Eurasia Project, moderated.

Hiltermann is an expert on political transition, constitutional process, and the situation of the Kurds in Iraq. He manages a team of analysts based in Amman and Beirut conducting research in the countries of the Middle East and writing policy-focused reports on the factors that increase the risk of and drive armed conflict. Prior to joining Crisis Group, Hiltermann was Executive Director of the Arms Division at Human Rights Watch.
