The EU provides half of the world’s foreign development assistance, invests substantial financial resources into EU neighboring countries, and has substantial internal EU cohesion funds. At the same time, EU funds are notoriously difficult to access and manage. OSI-Brussels monitors the relevant parts of the EU budget and, based on OSI’s own grantmaking experience, suggests how the EU can spend its money in the right areas and on the right issues.
The foundation also continue to engage in efforts to improve civil society access to EU funding, building on recent success in introducing the possibility of funding nonregistered civil society groups, re-granting to third parties, and simplifying the requirement for financial guarantees in case of pre-financing to NGOs.
