Open Society and Soros Foundation

About OSI-Brussels

OSI-Brussels is the EU representative office of the Open Society Institute and the Soros foundations network, a private foundation that has worked for three decades to promote vibrant and tolerant democracies.

OSI-Brussels works to influence EU policies so that open society values are at the heart of what the EU does, as a policy maker and as a funder, both inside and outside the European Union. The team of ten in Brussels provides evidence, argument and recommendations to policy-makers in the EU's institutions and member states, drawn from OSI's work on the ground in nearly 70 countries.

OSI's priorities are human rights, justice and accountability pursued through a wide range of policy areas including education, health, media, information, arts and culture.

OSI-Brussels advocates to EU decision-makers on issues of concern to the Soros network of foundations and programs. It also acts as a clearing house to facilitate collaboration between the network and the various institutions of the European Union, other European intergovernmental bodies, bilateral donors and NGOs.

OSI-Brussels was established in 1997 and has a staff of ten.

OSI-Brussels is an operational entity and does not give out grants. For OSI funding opportunities, please see the grants section.
