Myanmar's Hidden AIDS Epidemic

Reporter Orlando de Guzman explores in rare detail the growing AIDS crisis in Burma in an OSI-supported two-part radio series on BBC's The World. "Hidden AIDS in Myanmar" goes on to investigate how the human rights violations of the military junta exacerbate the health crisis. Through interviews with international public health experts, Burmese activists, and those affected by AIDS in Burma, de Guzman crafts an image of a country that is either unable or unwilling to respond to its current crisis.

In his second piece, de Guzman investigates the controversy surrounding international humanitarian groups working inside Burma. The segment chronicles both the Global Fund's choice to leave its work in Burma and the UNDP’s choice to remain engaged with the government.
