OSI Grantee Helps Launch Website to Campaign for UN Resolution on Burma

Date:
June 19, 2006

Along with an international network of human rights activists, the Alternative Asean Network on Burma (ALTSEAN), an OSI grantee, has created a website to broaden the campaign for a UN Security Council resolution on Burma. The site was launched today in honor of detained Burmese democracy leader and Nobel Peace Laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday.

The campaign website, www.unscburma.org, advocates UN Security Council official involvement on Burma. Drawing on the "Threat to the Peace" report published by Nobel Peace Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu and former Czech President Vaclav Havel, the website shows how human rights violations in Burma continue to threaten regional and international security. Mirror sites in various languages will be established by activist groups around the world in the weeks ahead.
