Hidden AIDS in Myanmar

The World reporter Orlando de Guzman explores in rare detail the growing AIDS crisis in Burma during an OSI supported two-part series.  His report goes on to investigate how the human rights violations of the military junta exacerbate the health crisis.

Through interviews with international public health experts, Burmese activists, and those affected by AIDS in Burma, de Guzman crafts an image of a country that is either unable or unwilling to respond to its current crisis.

In his second piece, de Guzman investigates the controversy surrounding international humanitarian groups working inside Burma.  The piece chronicles both the Global Funds’ choice to leave its work in Burma and the UNDP’s choice to remain engaged with the government.
