The Baltimore Drug and Alcohol Treatment Outcomes Study is the largest and most rigorously conducted drug treatment outcomes study that focuses on a single city. It is one of the key components of Baltimore's strategy to rigorously evaluate and continuously improve the public treatment system, as it expands to meet the needs of the city's uninsured citizens.
Overall, the study found a marked reduction in drug and alcohol use, crime, risky health behaviors and depression among participants who voluntarily entered publicly funded outpatient drug and alcohol programs in Baltimore City.
