Revenue Watch Institute (RWI) is a non-governmental organization that promotes responsible management of oil, gas and mineral resources for the public good. Too often natural resource wealth results in corruption and poverty, instead of growth and development. Improved public oversight of these revenues, coupled with targeted assistance to governments on how to manage them, can help turn oil, gas and mineral wealth from a hindrance into an asset. RWI works to improve democratic accountability in natural resource-rich countries by equipping citizens with the information, training, networks, and funding they need to become more effective monitors of government revenues and expenditures.

We are seeking a part-time or a full-time intern to undertake research and provide statistical assistance to the Senior Economists of Revenue Watch Institute.

Responsibilities

Assist with the statistical analysis of data on government revenues and expenditures in resource-rich countries
Prepare tables and graphs for a summary of statistical results
In collaboration with senior research staff, draft material summarizing research results on specific topics as assigned, for incorporation into working papers and project publications
Locate and collect relevant documents and data from sources such as electronic databases, libraries, and government publications.
Provide summaries of existing literature pertinent to the projects.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or graduate student with major in economics or statistics
Significant experience using such software as STATA
Experience in the use of large data sets
Competence to undertake research assignments with little supervision
Strong writing skills
Ability to commit at least 20 hours a week to the internship
Proficiency in Russian, French or Spanish is a plus

Immediately and continue through Summer of 2008

Compensation

This is an unpaid internship. Free buffet lunch provided.
