The Foundation Open Society Institute–Representative Office Montenegro supports the country’s efforts to develop in compliance with EU standards and practices, and to reach its developmental goals by relying upon and respecting open society values and principles.
The foundation addresses these issues through the following programs:
Education Reform
- provides expert help to key reform segments;
- ensures transparency and accountability of the reform process.
European Program
- educates on issues related to European integration;
- trains and mobilizes NGOs to implement international standards and to produce reform policies;
- supports NGO cooperation with state and local governments;
- informs the public about reforms and the EU integration process.
Law Program
- enables effective implementation of national criminal justice reform;
- monitors implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights;
- develops legal capacity;
- supports NGO-led monitoring of political-party financing;
- supports monitoring implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information.
Public Administration and Local Government
- supports local government institution building;
- encourages cooperation among NGOs and local governments.
Roma Program
- improves education for Roma children and youth;
- furthers capacity building of Roma NGOs.
Women’s Program
- develops projects to prevent violence against women;
- supports gender education and equality.
Capacity Development Program
- builds capacity of Montenegrin state institutions involved in European integration.
