The Soros Foundation–Hungary brought its activities to a close in 2007, archiving foundation documents (together with the Open Society Archives) and program results. The foundation also concluded its long-standing institutional grant program funded by the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe, and used evaluations and documentation from its core Roma programs to create a special website about lessons learned.

The foundation focused on the following priority areas in its work in Hungary: education, culture and arts, health preservation, law and justice, information, and creating sustainable nongovernmental organizations.

It developed and supported programs aimed at strengthening political participation; developing educational materials about corruption; assisting marginalized groups such as the Roma, the poor and invalid, refugees, prisoners, and pensioners; and helping bring discrimination test cases to trial. The foundation also worked to maintain strong connections with European Union representative offices and helped NGOs work with the EU.
